Bayer
Presents ‘Young Environmental Envoy Program 2008’ -
A Trip to Germany
India, August 27, 2008:
It’s time again for the Bayer Young
Environmental Envoy Program. Every year, two selected students represent
India at Bayer AG, Leverkusen (Germany) along with their counterparts
from several other countries. This is a week long, all-expense-paid
study tour sponsored by Bayer, where students have an opportunity
to experience how environmental protection is practiced by the company,
people and government in industrialized countries.
Students are required to send a write-up (not more
than 1500 words) on their contribution in their locality / college
etc. for improving the environment along with practical examples
on or before September 15, 2008. Short-listed students will be called
for an interview, to gauge their knowledge and communication skills.
Two selected students will make it to Germany for an all expenses
paid educational tour.
In keeping with its social commitment of environmental
protection in every sphere The Bayer Group worldwide has initiated
the Young Environmental Envoy Programme (BYEEP). Students interested
in the programme have to write an intriguing article on ‘Environment
Protection’ and Bayer will sponsor a free educational trip
to Germany to the winners.
The programme seeks to educate youth on the global
effort to save and protect the environment as Bayer appreciates
the fact that in order to conserve the habitat, one needs the cooperation
and understanding of young students.
Bayer initiated the BYEEP program in 2002 in India
to increase awareness and educate the youth on the global effort
to save and protect the environment. Every year students are selected
to represent India at a week-long program held in Germany.

Through the Bayer Young
Environmental Envoy program, Bayer hopes to achieve:
• To identify the youth leaders in environmental protection
• To provide these young leaders with
the opportunity to learn about the existing technologies,
facilities, and practices currently available in Germany
• To facilitate the networking and
exchange of views and experiences in environmental protection
among youth in various countries, and
• To encourage youth leaders in establishing
activities or programs to promote environmental awareness
and protection in their home countries |
About BYEEP
Bayer has been sponsoring the project since 1996,
and has since then played a major role in developing the program,
which today attracts hundreds of students from across the nation.
In 1997, UNEP Regional Office for Asia Pacific adopted the project
under its umbrella. BYEEP entails young people visiting Bayer headquarters
– Leverkusen, Germany, to learn about sustainable development
and various methods of environmental protection. Under the Bayer
Young Environmental Envoy program, selected students go to Germany
on a weeklong study tour to experience how environmental protection
is practiced by people, government and industry in a highly developed
country. The visit to the global headquarters of the Bayer Group
in Germany demonstrates how companies – through product development
and responsible manufacturing processes – contribute to sustainable
development.
• Bayer became the first private-sector company
to partner with the United Nations Environment Programme
(UNEP) in environmental projects for young people
• Bayer and UNEP have worked together on specific projects
in the Asia-Pacific region for many years.
• The cooperation agreement will serve as a basis for them
to step up current projects, transfer successful initiatives to
other countries and develop ideas for new projects in this field
Bayer India has been participating in this program
since 2002.
