Leverkusen/ New Delhi, December 4, 2008 – The BaySystems polyurethane systems house of Bayer MaterialScience in Greater Noida, India, is supporting the intense efforts for polio eradication in India by providing a customized solution for the manufacture of vaccine carriers which help to ensure that the vaccines are stored safely.

The systems house handed over 2,500 vaccine carriers to Government of Bihar on December 4 at New Delhi in the presence of officials from World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and Rotary International who have joined hands with the Government of India and state governments in the intensified efforts to eradicate polio.

The donated vaccine carriers will be used by volunteers to carry polio vaccines to villages and other vaccination sites. The carriers are manufactured by M/s Blowkings in Mumbai, one of the leading cold chain equipment suppliers in India.

Thanks to the polyurethane system based on Baymer® 23TR003 and Desmodur® 44 V20 L for the vaccine carriers, the vaccines can be stored at the required temperatures in the range of 2 and 8 degrees Celsius and can be transported safely and hygienically, thus ensuring that the vaccine will maintain its potency.
